I haven't had time to recount my life prior to college. Will do that someday later on.
After graduating from Claremont McKenna College, I got a MBA from UCLA, and then into the US Army.
I then married, divorced four years later, no children/grandchildren.
"Career" was all over the place, e.g., banker, nursery manager, computer programmer, police dept. analyst, house flipper, past owner of medical transcribing service, data service bureau for 200 gas stations, chiropractic/functional medicine clinic, practice mgt. consulting. More recently, online marketer and owner of websites. Major online resource for women with a vicious but poorly understood female disease. Not only was this one of the most difficult puzzles I've ever tried to solve, it also gave me a front row seat into the enormous scale of silent human suffering. Also, author of 3 books (non-fiction).
"Retired" 7 years ago. Turned my attention to financial markets and risk management. What a complex rabbit hole! Those (like me) without computer models that track thousands of data points daily and utilize AI are at a disadvantage, IMHO. The financial, economic and demographic data I receive daily paints a very cloudy future, i.e., transformative changes in the offing in multiple aspects of life.
My partner of 25 years had a stroke a year ago but has recovered well. She also is immunodeficient, which increases risk of a bad outcome from covid. So our personal contact with others is a bit minimal. Meanwhile, we're intently focused on optimizing our diet and keeping physically active. My health is generally good except for worsening/disabling arthritis and a problem with a rare form of melanoma.
Craziest thing I've done in recent years is starting CrossFit at age 75. Loads of fun and good comradery even though all the 20-somethings regarded me as a freak. Had to stop 4 years later -- risk of injury too high. Three years ago I tried my hand at skydiving. Ruptured some capillaries in my ears during a free fall in freezing weather. Done with that.
One of the more interesting things I've done since graduating from college is sail in the TransPac yacht race in a 150' schooner built in 1921, with 52 men in the crew (dangerously dismasted but still first to finish).
A core part of my life over the past 35 years has been participation in men's groups. Some of my best experiences and friendships have been with these men. It's been an opportunity to know other men at a very deep level as well as having various adventures. However, most of my comrades, relatives and classmates I knew have died or otherwise disappeared. Doing what I can to replenish from this loss.
I've found life to be uncertain and stochastic (non-linear). Risk, such as health risk, develops slowly, then all at once. I remain very curious about people and many topics, which takes me into unexpected directions. In so doing, the more I learn and understand, the more I realize how little I know. I try to stay connected to natural surroundings. I treasure every day I'm alive and seek to be fully present and observant in my relationships and surroundings. That's it for now!
