Good Health a Priority of the Greenwood Men’s Group

It can be said the most pressing challenging facing most members of the Greenwood Men's Group is the state of their health, especially their physical health.

However, this site is not intended to be a men’s health destination. There are plenty of other sites that focus on this topic.

Nonetheless, this section will offer a few occasional thoughts or ideas that might aid you in your pursuit of better health

As you consider your health, there are several areas to keep in mind:

  • Exercise and physical activity
  • Nutrition
  • Sleep
  • Stress management
  • Lifestyle management
  • Mental/emotional management

Exercise

Of the above factors, medical research indicates that exercise is the most important one in terms of healthspan and longevity.  Exercise can also mitigate some disorders and diseases. And fortunately -- it is something you can control. Therefore, we’ve created a section of this site that is devoted to exercise.

Nutrition

Optimal nutrition and the use of nutritional supplements is a tremendously complex topic. We might suggest that each man is somewhat metabolically or biologically unique and therefore optimal nutrition for one man might not be optimal for another.  A further complication is the changing health status of the individual. That is, there is no “one size fits all”.

Sleep

As we age, for various reasons, our sleep patterns may change and becomes somewhat less optimal.  However, adequate sleep is essential for good health and longevity.  If you have a problem with sleep, we encourage you to leave no stone unturned in your quest for a solution.

Stress Management

Chronic, unremitting stress is destructive of health. It is important to make a distinction between “good” stress and “bad” stress. There are lots of books and online resources for tips on dealing with stress.

Lifestyle Management

How do you conduct your life? How much attention do you give to developing healthy habits?  How do you choose to spend your time? Do you indulge in any addictive behavior?  Everything you think and do affects how you experience your life and how satisfied you are.

Mental/Emotional Management

How well do you manage your emotions and mindset? How do you perceive your environment and other people? How do you feel about yourself?  How do you deal with grief or loss, or the advent of a serious disease? How resilient are you?  Do you feel isolated? There are innumerable resources that offer various forms of guidance or assistance in these matters.

Putting It All Together

In summary, it’s vital to understand that while the above factors are listed separately, they all are intimately interrelated and profoundly affect each other. If you improve in one area, you may experience improvement in the other areas.

As an example, if you have been a couch potato, and you start to regularly exercise, you may discover that you sleep better, have less stress and feel much better about yourself.
