Bocce Ball

We generally play bocce ball at least once a month at the Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Club. They have four excellent outdoor courts. We have been playing there for a couple of years. The turnout is usually quite good, with all courts filled with men having a good time, laughter and friendly competition.

Bocce ball is something that anyone can play, regardless of physical abilities. It is a game of strategy and we have a lot of good-natured ribbing and crosstalk. If you've never played bocce ball before, don't worry. Someone will show you the ropes and you'll be playing like a Pro in no time!  We usually play on the third Monday of the month, at 2pm.

Other Opportunities to Play Bocce Ball

An additional opportunity to play bocce is with the Las Bochas Group.

Las Bochas is a group formed by one of the members of the Greenwood Men's Group. Their bocce ball game is open to anyone, not just men. It is popular and a good way to play bocce ball in a mixed group and meet new people. Several members of the men's group are always in attendance. It typically occurs on the second Friday of the month, at 4pm (unless raining).

The Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Club also puts on an "open night" any Friday (6-9 pm) during the bocce season – from May through September. This is when club members serve as hosts to anyone who wants to learn the game. Once you develop a taste, you may decide to become a Club member to compete in tournaments, entertain friends at the club, and play bocce anytime you like.

A significant number of the Men's Group are members of the Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Club. The purpose of the Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Club is to:

  • Promote bocce, croquet, and lawn bowling in Seattle,
  • Provide free lessons and access to low income youths and communities, and
  • Integrate the Club and its sports into surrounding neighborhoods.
