GMG Upcoming Events
Missed an event? Find out what happened!
The purpose of our site is to improve the connections among our members, and to keep you informed of what's going on.
It's also a place where prospective new members can get acquainted with and our community to become aware of our group.
Did you miss an event but curious to know what happened? You can find out here:
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/past-events.html
Some aspects of our site allow you to upload information to the site. For example…
Over the past years, the guys have shared some of their life experiences -- some amazing, some ordinary, some even bizarre. In nearly every case, they have been quite interesting.
But if you missed any of our past meetings, you probably missed some really good stories. Or even if you were present, maybe you have forgotten them?
We think it would be fantastic if we all could memorialize these experiences on our site so that each goy can know about each other's amazing experiences.
We love nothing better than a good story! Tell us yours here:
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/stories-experiences.html
Here's the first story that has already been posted:
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/the-race-of-a-lifetime.html
We look forward to hearing from you.
We've talked for years about forming smaller groups for those who have a specific interest or who like to do the same things. Group discussion, bocce and pickleball are fine, but is there something more we could do?
For example, some have suggested we form a group for socializing over coffee or lunch. Others have expressed an interest in neighborhood walks. Other ideas have been sports/exercise and woodworking.
Please visit our Micro Groups web page for more information:
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/micro-group.html
Fill out the form on this page to tell us what your micro-group interest might be. We'll then try to match you with others who have a similar interest.
If you've been in the men's group for a while, you know that we've had some really interesting presentations given by group members. These varied presentations have always been popular and well-attended.
This webpage has more information:

If you haven't spoken to the group before, surely there is something in your background or experience that is worth sharing! There is no limit on what your topic could be.
Your past career was growing mushrooms? Spent a year in an ashram in Indea? Are you an expert on artificial intelligence? Did some research on climate change? Swam the English Channel? Know the secrets to a long and happy life? Built or invented something? Know the history of the Nile and how it affected civilizations? Performed or worked in a foreign country? Explored for fossils? Etc.
We hope you'll step forward and share your knowledge and experience with all of us. Fill out the form on this webpage and let us know your thoughts.

No man is an island. Your friends in the Greenwood Men's Group are here to lend you a hand, if you need it.
Of course you pride yourself in being self-sufficient and able to stoically withstand adversity.
Yet given our advancing age, unexpected things happen. If something happens that is a bit beyond your control, what will you do?
One thing you can do is reach out to us and see if there's something we can do to lend a hand. Fill out the form on this web page and we'll try to get you some assistance.

We collectively have an astonishing array of hobbies and interests. But not everybody knows what the other guy is into.
If you have a hobby or particular passion, why not brag about it a little? Maybe someone else has a similar interest and would like to know about yours.
Fill out the form on this webpage to tell us what you're into, either currently or in the past. You're welcome to also upload some photos.

For example, have you seen Roger's paintings? He posted a couple of them on our site:
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/artist.html
He also shows a portfolio of his work on his own site.
And did you know Rich was a world-class expert in Morse Code, and built his own electronic keyer over 50 years ago?

Visit their web pages and add a comment if wish.
And…what about
your hobby or passion? We would love to hear what it is!

Our website has a sizeable collection of event ideas in the "What We Do" section. Event ideas include group discussions, sports, trips and tours, walks, presentations, recreation and exercise.
There are enough ideas to keep us busy for five years.
But…undoubtedly, we have overlooked some good ideas. If you have a suggestion that we have not listed, we would love to hear from you. Fill out any form on these webpages and tell us your thoughts.
We have a Resources Section web page. It has links to various resources that people visiting our site can check out.
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/mens-group-resources.html
For example, have you heard about ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out)? Maybe we could form a ROMEO group for monthly coffee or lunch? It would be a good way for us to develop deeper friendships.

Or maybe you're interested in a men's book club? Four members of the Greenwood Men's Group already participate in this book club:

Men, especially older men, face an array of physical, familial, social, cultural and emotional issues.
From time to time, we discuss some of these issues here:
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/men-issues.html
For example, there is an article about grief, the natural response to loss. At our age, loss of someone we love or something important to us is increasingly common. Yet we hardly talk about it, almost as if it doesn't exist. Is it possible that we men retreat into our cave to process our grief in total privacy? Or are reluctant to talk about it? Food for thought.

A Greenwood Men's Group member shares one of his grief experiences here:

This web page contains occasional editorial comments from the site webmaster. One of the posts is about random acts of kindness, such as the story that Bruce recently shared with the group.

It could be said the most pressing challenge facing many of our members is the state of their health, especially their physical health. We can't simply ignore this elephant in the room. This is why we have set up an embryonic section on men's health.
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/men-health.html
Of course, we're not going to replicate the oceans of available online health data; there are thousands of other sites that focus on health.
On the other hand, if something relevant catches our eye, we may choose to post it our site.
Worth noting is that medical research indicates the most important health measure you can take -- that is under your control -- is to increase your physical fitness. So a good place to start a health rebuilding program is to review what you're doing to exercise and remain as active as possible.
You are never "too old" to be physically active or start regular exercise. We posted an article about Richard Morgan, who didn't start exercising until he was 73 years old. Read his inspiring story here.
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/exercise-rowing.html
Due to the increasing size of the Greenwood Men's Group and limited time during events, we don't have sufficient time to get to know each other in a deep way.
A great way to solve this issue is for you to tell us the story of your life and post it here on the site for other group members to see. Maybe think in terms of a "short autobiography", along with some photos?
https://www.greenwoodmensgroup.com/biography.html
As an illustrative example, I've posted part of my "bio" below. Hope to see yours very soon!
