Timed Static Contraction (Isometric Exercise)

We might as well face facts. You're not the man you used to be when you were age 25.  Competitive sports and doing CrossFit workouts are probably a thing of the past. One of the reasons you may have stopped is that you got injured.

Timed static contraction is a form of exercise where you efficiently gain and retain physical strength -- but with zero risk of injury. The reason you don't get injured is that your body is stationary; there is no movement. There is only exertion of the muscles.  In other words, you can strengthen your muscles without body movement.

This may be an unfamiliar and revolutionary exercise concept to you. It is important that you understand the foundational concepts of this type of exercise.

What is timed static exercise?

It is similar to HIIT (high-intensity interval training) in that you apply an isometric effort in one muscle group for a continuous duration of two minutes before moving on to another muscle group.

A typical sessions lasts less than one hour, during which you're exercising for a total of only 15 minutes or so. The exercise is so effective that you are only permitted to do it once a week, so that your muscles have time to rest and rebuild.  Your progress is carefully monitored and you are under the individual guidance of an instructor at all times.

Imagine if you could maintain or even increase your strength with only 15 minutes of work per week, without risk of injury. What could be better?  This form of exercise is critically important for older men in order to minimize the increasing risk of sarcopenia.

Timed static contraction exercise studios are a rarity in Seattle. The nearest one to Greenwood is located in Edmonds.  It is called StrongerSimply.

One of our members has been going to StrongerSimply for the past four years. His muscular strength has actually increased even though he is in his eighties.

NOTE: We have arranged with StrongerSimply for a free demonstration of timed static contraction for members of the Greenwood Men's Group. You get to test your strength with their isometric leg press machine. You will discover how strong -- or weak -- you are, plus an explanation of how timed static contraction exercise works. If you're in interested, let us know -- we need a group of 3-5 guys to visit the facility.
